We used CCCS many years ago when we were living in Las Vegas and they were TERRIBLE. They made MANY mistakes and I actually ended up firing them and taking over the entire “program” myself. Based on our experience I would totally not recommend them. Of course you might be looking at an office in a state other than Las Vegas but still be forewarned. Sometimes it’s best to handle it yourself.
We used them, twice….
Pros:
Depending on the fee they are charging you, they do get a deal for you. Our B of A cards were dropped to 0%. They take the money automagically and disperse it for you, so you don’t have the extra work.
Cons:
You are paying a fee for what you could do yourself. In my case, it was $15 a month – or $180 a year for something that I could have done myself with about an hour’s work a month. (Maybe less). You just list all your debts, smallest to largest. Get current on minimums and start pegging away at the lowest debt. When it’s gone, roll that minimum payment into the next debt, along with any “extra” funds you have found. Lather, rinse, repeat.
You can call and negotiate lower rates as well as CCC can. I did appreciate that, while I am rather passive / quiet – the lady I got from CCC got on the phone with my credit card company and was a “New York broad” who pushed her way right to results. She cussed them out, was firm, adamant, and got what was wanted. I was way too quiet to do that.
