What do all of these elements have in common you might ask? The luxury knitwear company of Lutz & Patmos is no stranger to a broad range of collaborations with everyone from Julianne Moore, Sophia Coppola and most recently, Jane Birkin. Their very latest foray for NY Fashion Week however involves none other than Nobel Peace Prize winner Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Using organic cotton, the duo of Tina Lutz & Marcia Patmos, created a deep, scoop-neck sweater with hand-beaded ornaments, sales of which will benefit the Hillcrest AIDS Centre Trust and Desmond Tutu Peace Centre. In a world where consciousness regarding materials, manufacturing & supply are often overlooked when designers are conceiving collections, it’s a refreshing (and welcome!) respite to encounter the altruistic and eco-savvy approach of Lutz & Patmos who actively work to source environmentally friendly yarns & production facilities, and regularly donate one garment per season to charity.
